Half-time Show with Lori Mannion!

Freshman Lori Mannion participated in a Quincy University home basketball game halftime show earlier this month in front of a crowd full of fans! A lot of our players love to participate in halftime events! This is what went down...

Step 1: Lori had to spin around 10 times.
Step 2: Lori then had to put on an over sized basketball jersey.
Step 3: Lori then had to pick up a basketball and make a lay-up.
Step 4: CHECK OUT THE VIDEO TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

We are so proud. Good job Lori!! GO HAWKS!

Catching Up With Jack

As the semester comes to an end, we are not only keeping up with our soccer skills with pick up futsal games and working out, but also studying hard for exams.  This year has gone by so fast with endless days of preseason, naps before practice and after practice, and the long hours spent traveling with our wonderful bus driver Jack.  It has been a great start so far with school and soccer and I hope to finish strong until the very end.  I cannot wait to finish these exams and go home and train again for the start of the spring season.  I always try to keep looking for the future and staying fit for the next stage in Quincy’s soccer program.  It will be a tough one, but us Hawks can do it.  It’s a great day to be a Hawk!

Getting to know Teeny!

Hometown: St. Louis, Mo.

High School: Incarnate Word

Position: Defender/Mid

Year: Freshman

Club: JB Marine

Why do people call you Teeny?
People have called me teeny since I was born, I think it is because my name is KrisTINE (sounds like teen aka teeny).. you get the gist.

What was your favorite on the field moment as a QU Lady Hawk?
Definitely my goal against Indianapolis and when I was laying on the ground (because I fell of course) all I saw was my teammates running at me.

What is your favorite pregame activity?
My favorite pregame activity is the hand shake I have with Molly Costello. Also, I eat about my body weight in food.

What is your favorite food?
Black olives or fruit roll up

What is your favorite song on your IPod?
My all-time favorite song is "one in every crowd" by Montgomery Gentry but my favorite pregame music is "gold dust" or some Roscoe or the classic "teach me how to dougie"

If Dave needed you in goal, how would you do as a GK?
If I was asked to play goalie I would be honored since I am a firm believer that it was my calling. I think I would make quite a few extended diving saves and some punching saves on corners... ha ha ha

Who is your roommate and how messy is your room?
hahahahhahaha. my roommate is Molly Costello and let’s just say our room once had a stench because when we came home one Sunday and there was clothes on every inch of our floor, old food stains in the fridge, both beds unmade, every inch of our desk covered with things, our mirror that was once on our door fell off and was broken, 4 trash cans over flowing to the ground, mold inside of a cup, and a dead fish. We left it like that for a little bit.

What is the funniest moment so far this season?
On the first out of town trip, Molly and I thought of a way to make the trip go by faster so we made up a game. The game consists of mouthing the words of a song to the other person and they have to guess what song it is. We started playing it on every trip and the first time we traveled with the guys, we were playing and we looked up and about 7 people were just staring at us.

Getting to know Aimee!

Hometown:  St. Louis, Mo.

High School:  Lindbergh HS

Position: Forward

Year:  Junior

Club: Busch (Old School)

What is your favorite thing so far about this 2010 Team?
We’re awesome people. And when you get to play the game you love with awesome people, it doesn’t get any better than that.

What was your all-time favorite win as a QU Lady Hawk?
I think that would be the 2008 NCAA win in penalty kicks. I was a freshman. I didn’t really understand how big that was, but by looking at all of my teammates, I knew I just wanted to jump up and down and hug someone.

What was your favorite on the field moment as a QU Lady Hawk?
Any time 2010 graduate Jenna Boyko decided to do a victory dance after a goal. Why do you think I wanted her to score so much?

What is your favorite pregame activity?
Well there are many secret activities that I can’t share with anyone outside of the locker room, but the most obvious choice would be the pregame dance parties. I promise you no one can quite break it down like the QU Lady Hawks.

What is your favorite food?
Good old spaghetti and meatballs. A nice way to “carb up” before a big game.

What is your favorite sports team?
I’m brave enough to say the Chicago Cubbies. Go Cubs Go. I pray every year that my Nana gets to see a winning season.

Who is your favorite athlete?
Me. I have to be. If you’re not your own biggest fan, who will be?

What is your favorite song on your IPod?
Crash Into Me – Dave Matthews Band. Get to know it. It’s my jam.

What is the funniest moment so far this season?
Is this a real question? This team is literally funny every second of every minute we’re together. Some might even say we’re………hilarious.

What game are you most pumped for this season?
THE NEXT ONE

Getting to know Jodi!

Hometown: St. Louis, Mo.

High School: Incarnate Word

Position: Goalkeeper

Year: Freshman

Club: St. Louis Scott Gallagher

What is your favorite thing so far about this 2010 Team?
My favorite thing so far about this 2010 Lady Hawk Team is definitely the team chemistry. I feel like I've been playing with this team for years.

What is one of your personal goals as you enter college soccer?
One of my personal goals I've set for collegiate soccer is to keep moving and looking forward after each game. Each mistake is a lesson learned and I'm striving to improve myself every game.

What is your favorite pregame activity?
One word - DANCING!!! I absolutely love dancing and getting pumped up in the locker room right before game time. Once the song 'Gold Dust' comes on, it's time to bust out the moves!

Who has been a leader for you so far with this Lady Hawk Team?
Tori Champagne. She has been so welcoming to me and made my transition to Quincy so much easier. She has been a leader to me not only on the field, but off as well. I really look up to her as a person and feel like she's always there for me and will be no matter what. Overall, everyone has been a great leader and showed me the ropes and some point in time; whether it was saying "fitness center" and not "physical center", or to keep my head high after a loss.

What is your Nickname?
Jodaich! (Jo-Day-Shhh) Even though most people don't call me it because it's longer than my real name, it still floats around. Some people call me Jodith as a nickname because I tricked them into thinking that was my real birth name.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite real food would have to be spaghetti with marinara sauce. My favorite junk food would be ice cream.

Who is your favorite sports team?
BLUES!! I love watching hockey and going to the Blues games. Even if you have the worst seats in the center, it is still a blast.

Who is your favorite athlete?
To be honest, I really don't have an overall favorite athlete. For each sport it would vary. My favorite hockey player would be Sidney Crosby, and my favorite soccer player would be Hope Solo.

What is your favorite song on your IPod?
She Wolf - Shakira (hahahahaha all time favorite)

Werkmeister's Exhibitions Update

After 11 practices in 6 days and one day off, it was safe to say our team was ready to step on the field for the first exhibition game. These exhibition games were our first test to see if all the hard work in the off-season and this past week of pre-season had paid off. Our training and team chemistry has been awesome, now it was time to see it come together when we faced an opponent.
The first of our three exhibition games was against Central Methodist on our home field. We came out possessing the ball the majority of the game. Aimee Ubriaco put one goal away early in the first half. We continued to put a lot of pressure on the Central Methodist defense throughout the first half but could not put any more away. At the start of the second half we came at them right away with a goal by Becky Fleming in the first 4 minutes of the half.
The second game was against Hannibal LaGrange again on our home field. As a team we came out even stronger than we did the night before. We possessed the ball and created great combinations allowing many scoring opportunities. Throughout the game we were able to put away 5 goals. Becky Fleming had 2 goals, then Megan Wingenbach, Sam Andert, and Annie Sokolich each had one goal.
There were many great things throughout these games but there is always room to improve. These games were really good practice for us and allowed us to get out and compete. We played hard, played to win, and had fun!
After pulling out two wins these first two exhibition games, we are already on the road to accomplish great things this season. Being a senior this year, I am excited the journey has begun. We now look to focus on "winning the next game" at #24 Truman State Saturday at 12pm.

Robs Report: Preseason Day 6

Our preseason is coming to an end and I am very excited for my senior season to begin. Everyone has been working really hard which is great to see. I can tell the whole team is ready to go out and accomplish something huge this season. We have three exhibition games coming up Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday and it will be great to see how our team comes together against another opponent besides playing against ourselves. Preseason has been going really well so far and I can’t wait till we start playing regular season games. I’m always happy at how well our team gets along. Team chemistry is very important in order to be able to play well together and win games. I do believe this 2010 season will be a season to remember and I can’t wait to get it started!

Haller's Preseason Update - Day 3

It’s no surprise that preseason is most peoples least favorite time of the year. I mean let’s be honest I don’t know who actually would enjoy running cones, the 2 mile and 18 30’s. Getting through these things though not only makes us better and stronger as a team, but brings us closer together. It’s now day 3 and we are more than halfway through this first set of 2 a days. As tired and exhausted as we all are, we all know what we are working for and know that it’s worth it. Every girl who was here last year is still bitter about how are season came to an end, and I think that is in the back of everyone’s minds as we go through this preseason. Last night in our player’s meeting we talked about goals for this coming season, and none of them are going to be easy to accomplish, but you can already see this team coming together and the potential of this group is unbelievable. I have no doubt that we can accomplish every goal on our list and more. This team is going to continue to push each other to the limits not only during the remainder of this preseason, but also during the entire regular season as well.

The Return

It’s about that time of the year every single lady hawk has been anticipating. The seniors have been dreaming about this moment since we were freshman…our last and final chance to achieve something amazing together. This will be my fifth season with the Quincy lady hawks. Unfortunately I tore my ACL in the spring of 2009, causing me to take a medical red-shirt. It was an extremely hard decision. I couldn’t imagine my last season being spent without the players I have been through so much with since my freshman year. I also couldn’t fathom being a weak player my last opportunity to ever play soccer. So I decided to stay for one more semester. It has been a little longer than a year and I’m back in action. I’m 100% now and ready to see what this team can accomplish. There is a quote that states “It is a rough road to the height of greatness.” Everything happens for a reason. This quote applies to my injury and our teams past seasons perfectly. We have been through so much together fueling our energy for the season. Experiences from the past have connected this team in a way that is going to be unstoppable. Something special is bound to happen this season and we’re ready to do anything we can to achieve it.

Let the Ride Begin!

Well, this is it. The end of what we seniors have been working on for nearly 15 years. Our soccer careers started as 3 ½ foot little girls wearing soccer ball scrunchies in our hair, playing herd ball in our size 13 shoes. It was a social event – a time we could play with our friends and eat hot dogs and candy after the game. Our goal was to win one thing- a light up soccer trophy engraved with our name. It is funny to see how something so innocent turns into a life long career. Things have definitely changed since the herd ball days. We now stand over 5 feet tall wearing thick fabric headbands in our hair playing an exquisite game in our size 8 shoes (size 4 for some of us – Kaitlyn). It is weird to think that this childhood hobby has shaped who we are today. We have expanded our goals to bigger and better things and have been working all summer to prepare for the journey. Our goal now is far more daring than a small engraved trophy. It is a team aspiration – to win a national championship. I cannot wait to begin my final season surrounded by some of the most dedicated, hard-working and funny people. Let the ride begin!

The Beginning of the End

It is July of 2010 and we are about to start the beginning of the end. At this point in time 4 years ago I was wondering how I would adjust to college life and most importantly college soccer. The workouts came about twice a week if I was feeling good. The summer of sophomore year was a little different. New freshman were coming in and playing time had to be earned all over again. Workouts took place about 4 times a week; doubling what I did my freshman year. Junior year was planned to be the best year yet. I was on top of the world doing workouts 5 times a week, and we had great things planned for the 2009 season. Great things did happen. This is where I stand now; I am now a senior and ready to help our team to be the best yet. I’m not sure if I’m working out everyday to be in the best shape possible, or because this is my last year working out to get through preseason and I may secretly miss it. Either way the cross fits, sprints, or 2 miles I have been pushing through will pay off. In roughly 3 weeks we will report to campus and begin preseason. In less than 5 months my soccer career will be over, but for now I am going to enjoy every minute of it and win some championships along the way!
