Senior Year is Here!

Jodi Chapie
Wheeeew wee! It seems like just yesterday I was a little freshman coming in under Tori Champagne's wing. This crazy journey of life called college has flown by. Now approaching my senior year and my last year of soccer, I plan on training harder than ever. No regrets this season. IT’S TIME TO MAKE (even more) HISTORY LADIES! This year I would love to see our team advance in the NCAA tournament and try to go all the way. We definitely have the potential.

Last season we had many great accomplishments. Winning the GLVC was amazing. That will always be something I remember for the rest of my life. My sophomore we were so close and we let it slip right through our fingers. That wasn’t a good feeling and I know the returners weren’t trying to go home empty handed again. I’m glad we took care of business and got some beautiful rings for it too!
Every season I always try to think of the most memorable game. Usually the first game that pops into mind was the last one that knocked us out of the NCAA tournament. I always think what I could’ve done differently, etc. BUT the most memorable game for me this season was definitely on my birthday! We were playing against Drury on our home field and we just couldn’t score. As a goalie, the whole game just dragged on for me because our defense was shutting them down and they couldn’t get a shot off. Even through over time, still not one shot against us! Nothing is more nerve-racking than going the whole game not getting a shot against you and thinking well what if they get one shot… and it goes in… you were basically useless! Well regulation time was over and it was time to go into PK’s. Growing up I’ve always loved penalty kicks. It’s an adrenaline rush knowing that you have an even huger role in helping your team advance or win. The pressure was on and we answered! My team stormed in and Jaclyn tackled me to the ground. Everyone piled on and it was crazy! I was crying so hard I couldn’t breathe! I’ll never forget that feeling or that game!

This summer is zooming by. Tonight was the first game of our summer league out at SportPort and I saw many great things. Not all of the incoming freshmen were there because of high school soccer still going on and some live far away, but it was a great showing! Breezie Breeze got her first shut out! While, Little Kuhls and Katie shut it down in the midfield and defense! I’m stoked for what this season has in store for us. I hope to end my soccer career with nothing but great memories from the girls who are dang near my sisters. But nothing worthwhile ever comes easy! The training never stops and so I’ll leave you with this quote from Babe Ruth, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”
