The Next Chapter - Coach Coz!

Molly Costello
I'm actually a senior... WHAT. THE. HECK?1? This cannot be right for a number of senioritis reasons. First off, I still can't read my schedule. I'm not quite sure when the cafe closes for lunch. I get confused when people say they have class in Friars, or are going to the computer lab there. I'm not always sure when the Health and Fitness Center closes (and I work there!) and God forbid I remember my mail box combination that has been the same since freshman year.  It seems like only yesterday I was a little freshman, anxious to be in college thinking the campus was ginormous, actually liking the cafe (what in the world was I thinking!?) and having my big sis show me the ropes of what it is like to be a Quincy University Lady Hawk Soccer Player.

This summer and upcoming season are totally different than any other season I've ever had.  After three long(gggggg) and frustrating years, I have finally decided to hang up my boots.  I broke my leg playing soccer my Senior Year of high school, and had tried making my big comeback ever since, coming to the realization that my time had ended.  As depressing as the past three years have been, I have now decided to make a comeback in my own way, in a new role. This year I will be a student coach.  Last fall and this past spring I tested the waters a little with this new role and I am more excited than ever to start this new experience. I'm definitely ready to bring out my clip board, hat, whistle, watch, have my very own practice plan and run these girls till they drop! (Only kidding, smoochies ;)

In all seriousness, I'm beyond honored to have this opportunity. Soccer has always been a huge part of my life even though I may not be able to play anymore, I'm still apart of this hilariously awesome team. This team has gotten me through my toughest times; from all the surgeries, to the long hours of physical therapy, and all
the tears, the team always sent positive vibes my way. These girls kept me from going insane and are truly my best friends. As bad as it is having a career ending injury, this program has opened up other doors for me. My dad was a coach and now I see why he loved it so much! Who knows... maybe it just runs in the blood and I'm destined to be a coach someday and I never would have known that without this opportunity. I cannot say thank you enough to everyone who has been there for me...from siblings, friends, teammates, physical therapists, trainers, and doctors, but an extra thank you to my parents and coaches... you guys all made this injury bearable by supporting me with every decision I have made.

I am unbelievably excited to work with this 2013-2014 Team in my new role. Preseason will be here before we know it and Coach Coz will be in full force! With that being said... I hope Dave and Katie know what they got themselves into!!!!

Catchin' up with Jack!

Jaclyn Mastroianni
Summer is in full swing and my senior season is approaching quickly.  3 years have come and gone.  I remember being an incoming freshman and looking at our schedule and not knowing what to expect and now I am a veteran.  I have been busy this summer with work, an online class and soccer practice and workouts.  We are already into our second phase of our H.A.W.K workout plan.  The Lady Hawks have been getting in shape with these workouts, individual workout plans, and summer league games on Thursday nights.  With these workout plans we work on our endurance, strength, quickness, speed, and ball skills.  Our team is getting stronger and we’re ready to win.  I can tell the girls are anxious for the upcoming season at our Thursday night games, even the incoming freshman have stepped into playing the Lady Hawk way.   Everyone is playing hard, communicating well on the field, and having fun.  We’ve only had two games so far, but I can tell this season is going to be special.

Everyone has stepped it up this summer to get in shape because of the target we have on our backs, especially after the great season we had last year.  I feel this season is going to be the hardest, but most exciting season out of all my years.  It is going to be the hardest because of the great competition in the GLVC.  Every team is strong and for all my years here everyone plays extra hard when they play Quincy.  It is going to be a battle every game, but it will be one of the most exciting seasons for us and for Lady Hawks history.

This team is so strong and I know everyone wants to win as much as I do.  All the sprints, timed 2 miles, sweat, and hot summer days will feel great when we hear “It’s a Beautiful Day” playing throughout the stadium.  I still can’t believe that senior year is almost here, but I am so excited for this team and I can’t wait to see what the year brings.  LETS GOOOOOOOO
